How to add a deposit or a payment plan
Put the deposit and the payment schedule on the quote itself, so your customer agrees to them when they say yes.
Steps
- In the quote builder, find the Deposit section.
- Choose a percentage of the total or a fixed dollar amount, and type it in. Either can go up to 90 percent of the quote.
- Add a due-by date if you want one. Leave it blank and the deposit is due when the customer accepts.
- For progress payments between the deposit and the final balance, use the Payment plan card on the quote page. Add up to 4, each with a name, a percentage and an optional due date.
- Your customer sees the schedule on the quote. After they accept, they can pay each one with Pay now (when Stripe is connected) or see your payment instructions.
Good to know
- Everything is editable until the customer accepts. After that the amounts are locked, because they agreed to them, but the due date can still move until it is paid.
- Settings has a Usual deposit percentage that fills the box in for new quotes.
- You can text a deposit request, or mark a deposit paid when you were paid in cash or by check, and undo it if you make a mistake.
- The final invoice credits the deposit and every progress payment already paid.
Questions
- Is there a limit on the deposit?
- The deposit plus the progress payments can't be more than 90 percent of the quote, so there is always a balance at the end.
- Do the rules about deposits depend on where I work?
- Yes. Some places limit how large a deposit can be or require certain wording. Check the rules where you work.
